The Pumpkin Patch

One upon a time, there was little boy who was newly five. One fine day, not long before Halloween, his loving mommy took him to a pumpkin patch. It was time to choose a pumpkin to carve and light and put out on the porch for all the little ghosts and goblins to see on Halloween night.

When that little five year old boy saw all the big, round orange pumpkins waiting in the pumpkin patch, he ran as fast as his speedy legs could go all around the pumpkin patch, from one big pumpkin to another. And then he found it, the Perfect Pumpkin he would take home to carve. It was huge! Oh, this was the best pumpkin ever. It would make the coolest jack-o-lantern.

He put his arms around that fat pumpkin and lifted with all his might. But no matter how hard he tried, he could not lift the giant pumpkin.

So the little five year old boy waited patiently for his sweet mommy to find him, because she was choosing pumpkins too, and was strong enough to lift the Perfect Pumpkin and take it home with them.

When his mommy saw his Perfect Pumpkin, she was giddy with excitement. It was just right! She had found two Perfect Pumpkins, too. She hugged and tickled the five year old boy until his screams of delight could be heard throughout the pumpkin patch.

Then she picked up their three Perfect Pumpkins and they laughed and laughed and laughed, all the way home.

And they carved the best jack-o-lanterns ever!
